32-hours a week
Location: Almere, The Netherlands

As a Water Expert you will be supporting Dorcas Country Offices (COs) in design and implementation of water related programmes in development and humanitarian contexts. You will join the Programme and Knowledge Support (P&KS) department consisting of 20 staff members and report  to the Manager. You will provide technical support to our country offices and partners, co-design water related programs (pe: Wash in humanitarian context, climate related water management projects, entrepreneurial WASH), represent Dorcas in Water related networks in the Netherlands and lead consortia for joint external fundraising. All of this, with the aim of reaching and helping  people affected by poverty, crisis and exclusion.

  • Provide expertise to country office staff through training as well as guidance in the design and implementation of water programmes.
  • Coordinate the development of expertise on water related approaches in the organisation.
  • Support the integration of climate resilience into water-related programming where relevant, particularly in high-risk geographies, such as climate smart WASH and water access systems.
  • Ensure that WASH programming is context-responsive, whether in emergencies, long-term development, entrepreneurial models or climate-affected regions.
  • Establish consortia with other organisations for external fundraising.
  • Write external funding applications.
  • Represent Dorcas as a water expert in relevant external networks.
  • You have a master’s degree, preferably in the field of water management or a related area.
  • You have >5 years working experience in humanitarian and/or development aid, preferably in the area of WASH and/or climate related WASH programming.
  • You understand how water can be used as a climate adaptation measure.
  • You understand the principles and design of entrepreneurial water programs that support sustainable access and income generation.
  • You are a good communicator and have strong written and oral skills in both Dutch and English.
  • You have good knowledge of the international donor community and expertise in leading, developing and writing project proposals, often in cooperation with multiple partners.
  • You are proactive, flexible, innovative, culturally and organizationally sensitive and you enjoy working within a diverse team.

  • A salary ranging from € 3802 to € 6107 (based on a 36-hour work week).
