Dorcas and Help a Child (Red een Kind) are recruiting a Disaster Response Coordinator / Liaison officer (Juba, South Sudan)

Help a Child is a Christian, international non-profit organization, founded in 1968 in The Netherlands. Help a Child empowers vulnerable communities to improve the wellbeing of children. Help a Child works in rural areas where the wellbeing of children and families is threatened by poverty, natural disasters or conflicts.

Position

In South Sudan Dorcas and Help a Child have joined forces. Dorcas and Help a Child are looking for a

Disaster Response Coordinator/Liaison officer

(to be based in Juba with frequent travel to the field)

 

To represent, network and coordinate our joint programmes the Disaster Response Coordinator/Liaison officer will be responsible for:

Representation

  • Representing Dorcas and Help a Child at the UN-cluster meetings and reporting to these clusters;
  • Representing Dorcas and Help a Child towards donors, government institutions and other stakeholders;
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with South Sudan Joint Response stakeholders, RRC, NGOs, Ministries and other important players in the humanitarian and development sector;
  • Strategize, coordinate and lead in lobby, advocacy and networking activities in Juba according to the country strategies of Help a Child and Dorcas.

Fundraising

  • Acquisition and networking with potential donors and keep up to date regarding their policies and funding opportunities;
  • Create and capitalize on fundraising opportunities;
  • Contribute to program design and writing of proposals for institutional donors.

Coordination/reporting

  • Management & coordination of the Help a Child Disaster Response programs in South Sudan;
  • Coordinate between the Dorcas, Help a Child and Juba based donors and stakeholders;
  • Act as a linking pin between local offices and the institutional fundraisers and lobbyists in the Netherlands;
  • Submitting reports to the country offices, headquarters and institutional donors;
  • Provide logistical support.

Qualifications

  • MA/Msc degree in a field related to Humanitarian Aid and Development. Candidates with a BSc degree that have extensive relevant experience are also invited to apply;
  • 4+ years relevant working experience;
  • Demonstrated experience building professional networks at a senior level;
  • Proven track record in identifying, creating and capitalizing on funding opportunities;
  • Ability to cope with stressful, delicate and possibly unstable situations;
  • Results driven and strong motivation;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written;
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, interpersonal and cross cultural sensitivity;
  • Being a Christian, adhering to the Christian identity of Dorcas and Help a Child;
  • Experience working in a setting similar as found in South Sudan is a prerequisite.

Furthermore, you will be offered a 1 year contract. Depending on your performance and fit with the program and staff, the contract will be extended.
